The last few days we have had stable weather conditions, which was one of the factors that caused air pollution.
Most people long for snow, not only because it will clear the air, but also because of the snowy idyll. Especially children look forward to it to enjoy winter joys, sledding and ice skating, but also lovers of mountains, skiing and other winter sports.
Given that we haven’t had snow in the last few new years, we were wondering if it would be the same this year.
– Although there are still eight days left until the New Year’s celebration, the first weather forecasts can already be presented, especially important for everyone who is planning an outdoor celebration.
This morning’s outputs of forecast models indicate that precipitation will occur throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina on December 31 and January 1, so it is increasingly certain that the welcome in most of the country will have a real winter atmosphere. In Bosnia, the chances of snow are high, while in Herzegovina they are significantly less, but it is not excluded that on the night of December 31st, some snowflakes will wander as far as Mostar.
According to current forecasts, in the period from 20:00 on December 31 to 5:00 on January 1, low air temperatures are expected in Bosnia, mostly between -6 and -3 degrees Celsius, which values are sufficient to provide a real winter atmosphere with the expected snow – says meteorologist Bakir Krajinović.
We were also interested in whether it would snow before the New Year.
– Snow is expected even before the arrival, already from December 24, so with low temperatures in the following days, a snow cover could form and be maintained, especially in the central parts of the country. Due to the low temperatures, snow will fall on the mountains and a new snow cover will form.
From December 27 until the end of the forecast period, temperatures are expected to be significantly lower than the current values. The minimum temperatures in Bosnia will be from -6 to -1 degrees, in Herzegovina from 0 to 5 degrees Celsius, while the maximum daily temperatures in Bosnia will reach up to 4 degrees, and in Herzegovina up to 10 degrees Celsius.
All in all, the forecasts indicate that this year’s welcome will be meteorologically very interesting, because for a long time there have not been such strong prospects that we will welcome the New Year in our country with snow and minuses – Bakir Krajinović, a meteorologist from the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute of BiH, says for Faktor.
