It all started on the field, three minutes and 17 seconds before the end of the third quarter. After Kendrick Nunn was awarded a fourth foul on Sasha Vezenkov, a Panathinaikos player approached the Bulgarian basketball player complaining about the alleged simulating. Nunn and Jones got in each other’s faces, and the confrontation escalated when Jones grabbed Nunn by the neck and pushed him away. Both were ejected by the referees – Jones received a technical and an unsportsmanlike foul, while Nunn earned a second technical, ending the match for both.

However, the real drama was yet to come. The conflict spilled from the parquet floor into the corridors of the hall, where, according to videos that spread on social networks, a physical confrontation took place. The American duo first had a fierce verbal confrontation while the orderlies and the police tried to separate them. After a brief lull, Jones lunged at Nunn again and attempted to punch him, sparking another commotion.

The peak of the scandal occurred after the game, when Panathinaikos coach Ergin Ataman made shocking claims. In a statement to Greek television ERT, Ataman accused Jones of entering their dressing room and physically assaulting his player.
Ataman was beside himself: “Tyrique Jones entered our locker room and hit Kendrick Nunn! Nunn is injured right now, how can this f***ing Jones do something like that? How is something like this even possible? What is this? They came to the locker room to hit him. What is this?”, repeated the visibly upset Turkish pundit.
