The unusual case of robberies occurred last October in Vienna, when the 23-year-old man robbed a bank whose client, then surrendered to the police.
The whole event was surprised by both banking officers and police, and at trial was discovered that the man suffered from a severe mental disorder.
According to the statements, the man entered the bank in Vienna Donaustadt, welcomed the teacher, which he knew, and said, “I want the money, this is a trial robbery for the police.”
At the same time, he showed a plastic bag, below which he made a gun-like movement. The bank clerk first thought it was a joke, but as she wasn’t sure if the gun was real, she passed the money to a man.
After he received 500 euros in banknotes, the man left the bank, but he didn’t try to escape. Instead, he went to the nearest police station and told the officers that he had just robbed the bank.
The cops were surprised, because they were already ready to take action after the bank clerk activated the alarm.
At the trial before the Viennese District Court, the man was calm and polite. He said he wanted to make a joke and simulate a robbery to bring money to the police to fight drug trafficking.
However, the court psychiatrist determined that a man suffers from the paranoid of schizophrenia, and that his behavior was guided by a psychotic condition.
The psychiatrist stated that the man’s thoughts were bizarre and that he was very restless, and that the whole rank was imbued with aggressive psychosis.
The judge was therefore adopted by the decision that a man be placed in a closed psychiatric institution for treatment.
This case remains one of the most unusual examples of “robbery” in which the perpetrator I decided to surrender to the authorities, but at the same time reveals the importance of care for mental health in society, “Fenix-magazine”.
