Vatican opposed Trump plans: Palestines must remain on their country

Pietro Parolin / Agencies

State Secretary of the Holy Chair Pietro Parolin said on Thursday that the Palestinian population “must remain on their land.”

Parolin rejected any forced deportations in the statement at the Italy and Holy See Summit, the Ansa’s Newspaper Agency reports.

“The Palestinian population must remain on their country. This is one of the basic points of the Holy Chair, no deportation,” Parolin said in response to journalists.

“There is no deportation and because someone from the Italian side said that this would create tensions in the area,” he added.

His statements are a response to the U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial plan to “take” the Gaza belt and forcibly relocate the Palestinian population to other countries.
