Pope Francis, who was in hospital for a little more than two weeks due to the double inflammation of the lungs, spent a peaceful night and rested, the Vatican said.
After a few days of careful optimism, the 88-year-old Pope made a step back yesterday, experiencing a “crisis of isolated breathing” that demanded non-invasive, mechanical ventilation, the Vatican said.
Pope, as he was stated, had “the episode of vomiting with inhalation and sudden deterioration of the respiratory situation.” His respiratory roads were also done, the Vatican added.
It is expected that his doctors will take 24-48 hours to estimate how this episode will affect his general clinical condition.
“The night went peacefully, the Pope rest,” Vatican posted this morning, not stating more details. The next medical bulletin is expected about 19 hours.
Franjo was admitted to the Rome Hospital Gemelli 14. February with a severe respiratory infection that degenerates in the double inflammation of the lungs – serious infection of both pulmonary wings that can light them and leave the scars, aggravating breathing.
Franjo suffered several episodes of bad health in the last two years and is especially inclined to pulmonary infections because he received pleuritis as a young adult and a part of one pulmonary wing was removed.
