US military forces met with Kurdish partners in Syria’s Deir Hafer on Friday as part of US efforts to stabilize the area after a week of clashes between Kurdish and Syrian government forces.
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) said it was closely monitoring developments.
– American forces recently arrived in Deir Hafer to temporarily assess what is happening on the ground, engage Syrian partners and help stabilize the situation – said CENTCOM spokesman, Captain Tim Hawkins, for the Al Arabiya TV network.
– Syria at peace with itself is key to preserving peace and stability in the entire region – added Hawkins.
The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces told AFP the meeting took place in Deir Hafer. A Syrian military source told AFP that a coalition convoy had entered the area.
