A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent shot and killed a woman in Minneapolis on Wednesday, local and federal officials confirmed. The incident took place in the context of President Donald Trump’s administration’s increased crackdown on illegal immigration in Democratic-governed cities.
According to Tricia McLaughlin, a spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security, an ICE agent fired after the woman allegedly tried to run over officers with her vehicle. The woman died on the spot, while the injured agents are expected to be out of danger.

The incident sparked protests from citizens, and the protesters were met by heavily armed federal agents wearing gas masks, using tear gas to disperse them.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey blamed the Trump administration for escalating tensions in the city and called for an immediate withdrawal of ICE. Frey said the city stands with its immigrant and refugee communities.
The Trump administration has deployed federal agents to Minneapolis in recent weeks over alleged fraud involving Somali immigrants, drawing criticism from local residents.
