Uruguayan legend Luis Suárez will not play at the 2026 World Cup. Coach Marcelo Bielsa did not include the 39-year-old Inter Miami forward on the final passenger list, thus ending the story of a possible return to the national team.
Suarez, the best scorer in the history of Uruguay with 69 goals in 143 appearances, he said goodbye to the national team in 2024. Although he recently left the door open to a possible return, Bielsa decided to continue without him.
That’s right Suárez to remain without performance at the fifth World Cup, after representing Uruguay at the 2010, 2014, 2018 and 2022 tournaments. With the national team, he won the Copa América in 2011, and he will be remembered for his role in reaching the semi-finals of the World Cup in 2010.
The offensive load now leads the way Darwin Núñezwhile he will have key roles in the team Federico Valverde, Manuel Ugarte, Rodrigo Bentancur, Ronald Araujo and José María Giménez. Bielsa put together an experienced and defensively solid team for the World Cup.
