Ukraine has not previously publicly announced that it is using advanced US-supplied ballistic missile systems against targets inside Russia, although the restriction on that was lifted by the outgoing Biden administration a year ago.
– The use of long-range strike capabilities, including systems such as ATACMS, will continue – the military general staff said in a statement published on Tuesday.
Kiev received the systems in 2023, but was initially limited to using them only on its own territories, almost a fifth of which is occupied by Russia.
Joe Biden, who was US president at the time, lifted those restrictions in November 2024, a move initially criticized by his successor, Donald Trump.
Ukraine has requested US Tomahawk missiles with a range of 2,500 kilometers, claiming that they will help Russia sit at the negotiating table.
Although Trump initially considered the idea of selling them to Kiev, he said in November that he was “actually” not considering the move, Reuters reports.
