Two German tourists were killed in a fight in a residential area in southeastern Spain on Monday, Spanish police said, according to German news agency dpa. The third German was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The police arrested the suspect today. Unofficially, he is believed to be a Polish citizen.
According to local media, the alleged perpetrators locked themselves in a house near the city of Elche after the fight and, despite several hours of negotiations, did not voluntarily surrender to the police. After 8 p.m., special police units forcibly entered the house and arrested them, according to dpa.
The incident was reported to the police by a resident who noticed what he thought was a body being taken out of the house. The bodies of beaten Germans were discovered in the street on Monday evening.
Allegedly, the fight took place over the use of a house owned by a friend of three Germans. The Polish woman was allegedly living in the house illegally, and the Germans were trying to evict her, reports the Spanish newspaper El Pais.
