US President Donald Trump said there are two options in relation to Iran – military action or a deal. He added that he personally leans more toward negotiations, although a military scenario remains possible.
“We have two options when it comes to Iran: do we want to go there and just blow them to the ground and finish them off forever, or do we want to try to get a deal?” Trump said.

Asked if he wanted to “smash Iran to the ground,” he replied: “I’d rather not, for human reasons, but it’s an option.”
“Iran is our country, in terms of the military”
“This is a victory like we haven’t had since Venezuela, to be honest,” Trump continued. “We have a country that has gone astray.”
“It’s our country,” he explained, “when it comes to the military.”
He claims that the US has enough missiles
Trump also commented on concerns about the stockpile of missiles, after reports that White House officials began to fear that they might be depleted.
“We have more of them than ever, actually, because we have stocks all over the world and we can take them if we need them. We have huge stocks everywhere,” he said.
“We are stocked and ready. Right now we have more than double what we had when this started,” he added.
Negotiations stalled
While an indefinite truce between the two sides remains in place, talks to turn the truce into a permanent deal have stalled over bitter disagreements over Iran’s nuclear ambitions and control of the Strait of Hormuz.
Earlier on Friday, Iran’s IRNA news agency reported that Tehran had submitted a new proposal to the US through an intermediary in Pakistan. Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB reported that Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi had informed his counterparts in the region about “new initiatives related to ending the war” in several phone calls.
Trump rejected the previous offer
Earlier this week, Tehran made a previous offer, which Trump rejected. Trump praised Pakistan’s mediation efforts, saying phone talks were continuing.
“They’ve made progress, but I’m not sure they’ll ever get there,” Trump said, adding, “They’re looking for things that I can’t agree with.”
Maneuver before Congress
It should also be mentioned that the White House informed Congress that US “hostilities with Iran have ended”, although US forces are still active in the region. President Donald Trump claims in the letter that the conflict is over, but at the same time warns that Iran still poses a significant threat, leaving room for continued military activities.
The move is being interpreted as an attempt to circumvent the statutory 60-day deadline for congressional authorization for military operations. Democrats argue that this is a manipulation of the law because the naval blockade is still ongoing, while some Republicans have also begun to demand a greater role for Congress in deciding on further military moves.
