US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that negotiations with Iran to end the Middle East war were underway “right now”, adding that Tehran wanted to reach a deal “very urgently”.
– We are negotiating right now – Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, adding that Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Ambassador Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner are involved in the negotiations.
Trump said the U.S. and Iran were in “productive talks” about ending the conflict and that U.S. officials had delayed some missile strikes as part of an effort to press matters diplomatically.
Iranian authorities have been quick to deny that any direct talks have taken place with Washington since the war began, claiming that there are no real diplomatic talks between the two countries.
Pakistan has offered to host peace talks between the US and Iran to end the conflict, while other countries are trying to facilitate contact.
Despite claims of talks, the conflict is widening, with the US planning to send additional troops to the Middle East, and bombings and military activity continuing in Iran and the region.
