In a conversation with reporters on the presidential plane, Trump called the stockpile of about 440 kilograms of highly enriched uranium “nuclear powder”. Washington believes that the material is under the rubble of Iran’s nuclear facilities, while Iran maintains that its nuclear program is for civilian and peaceful purposes only.
Satellite images from June 2025 show excavators at the entrance to the Fordow plant tunnels. Trump said that he was told from Tehran that Iran does not have the technology or machines to remove uranium and that only China or the US can do it.
“They told me that the plant was completely destroyed. I wanted to take over that material and at first they agreed, but later they backed out. However, I believe they will agree in the end,” said Trump.
Speaking on other topics, Trump confirmed that he rejected Iran’s latest peace proposal, calling it unacceptable. He also stated that he had not yet decided on the sale of US weapons to Taiwan, nor did he want to comment on whether the US would defend the island in the event of a Chinese attack.
He also touched on British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, whom he said was facing serious problems due to energy and migration. He also announced that he is considering lifting sanctions on Chinese companies that buy Iranian oil, but that a final decision has not yet been made.
