“What Trump said very clearly is that he is not acceptable for India to continue to finance this war by buying oil from Russia,” Stephen Miller, the Deputy Head of the White House Staff and one of the most influential Trump advisers.
Miller’s criticisms are among the sharpest that the Trump Administration has so far referred to one of its key partners in the Indo-Pacific Region.
“People will be shocked when India is practically equalized with China in the amount of Russian oil. It is a stunning fact,” Miller said in the show Sunday Morning Futures on Fox News.
Sources from the Indian government stated for Reuters on Saturday that India intends to continue buying Russian oil despite American threats.
On Friday, the Customs entered into force of 25 percent on Indian products, as a result of the Indian purchase of military equipment and energy from Russia.
Trump also threatened the introduction of customs from 100 percent to imports from countries that continue to buy Russian oil, unless Moscow has reached a peace agreement with Ukraine.
