“NATO is unrecognizable today,” Trump said in an interview with the British Telegraph newspaper.
He added that he never trusted the alliance. “I was never convinced by NATO. I always knew they were a paper tiger, and Putin knows that too,” he said.
In recent weeks, Trump has sharply criticized allies for not participating in the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran virtually closed during the Middle East war.
