Trump shocked European Allies this week by calling Russian President Vladimir Putin without prior advice with them or Kiev and declaring the current beginning of peace talks with Ukraine.
Trump administration officials also clearly whether they expect that European Factions in NATO take on primary responsibility for the region since the United States now has other priorities, such as borders and opposition to China.
“The answer to the last question is no,” he replied, asked if he could convince the public that Ukrainians and Europeans would be on the negotiating table about the truce, General Keith Kellogg at the Global Security Conference in Munich.
“Ukrainians, however, will be at a table, of course,” he added, pointing out that it would be stupid to suggest otherwise.
This immediately caused the dissatisfaction of European leaders.
“There is no way we can lead to discussions or negotiations on Ukraine, the future of Ukraine or European Security Structure without Europeans,” said Finnish President Alexander Stubb at the Munich conference.
“But that means that Europe must be collected. Europe must talk less and do more,” he added.
Stubb said that the questionnaire would now send them to the Europeans to think. One European diplomat said the U.S. document includes six issues, one of which is especially important for the Member States of the European Union. “Americans approach European capacities and ask how ready soldiers are willing,” he said.
NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte also called on Europeans to join.
“And with their European friends, I would tell you in the discussion, not complaining that you could either not be at a table, but by making specific proposals, ideas, increasing defense expenses,” he said.
France talks with his allies about the possibility of maintaining an informal meeting of European leaders about Ukraine to discuss these things, although nothing has been decided at this stage, the official of the French Presidency said today.
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said that the meeting would be held throughout. Kellogg also said that the talks focused on the end of the war between Russia and Ukraine could focus on the territorial concessions of Russia and targeting Putin oil revenues.
“Russia is actually faster,” he said, adding that Western forces must do more in terms of efficient application of sanctions against Russia.
