Trump attacked the Pope again, says yes "endangers many Catholics"

“The Pope would rather talk about how it’s OK for Iran to have nuclear weapons,” Trump said in an interview with conservative Salem Radio, CNN reports.

“I don’t think it’s very good. I think he’s endangering a lot of Catholics and a lot of people. But I guess the pope, if it’s up to him, thinks it’s perfectly fine for Iran to have nuclear weapons,” added the US president.

Pope Leo never stated that Iran should have nuclear weapons. So far, he has repeatedly expressed his opposition to the war in that country and the subsequent escalation of the conflict in Lebanon, while calling for dialogue.

“Attacks against the Holy Father are neither acceptable nor useful for peace,” Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced on the X network. Although he did not directly name Trump in his speech, Tajani emphasized support for the pope’s “testimonies in favor of dialogue and the value of human life.”

“The Pope has already answered. I would not add anything. He gave a very Christian answer saying that he is doing what his role requires, which is to preach peace,” Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin told Italian national television RAI.

The first American pope in history said earlier that he had “no interest” in discussing war with Trump, after repeating his appeal for peace in the Middle East. Trump’s new verbal attack took place two days before the expected meeting between Pope Leo and US Foreign Minister Marco Rubio in the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican.
