Trump announced on the social network Truth Social that, “at the request of the Iranian government”, he would suspend the attacks for a period of 10 days. He stated that the new deadline expires on April 6 at 8 pm EST.
He added that the negotiations between the United States and Iran to end the conflict are still ongoing and that, despite the claims of the “fake media”, they are “progressing very well”.
Recall that Trump first threatened attacks on Iran’s energy infrastructure last Saturday, if Tehran does not allow the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Already on Monday, the deadline was extended by five days, with the explanation that the talks between Washington and Tehran are “very good and productive”.
At the time, Iran rejected such claims as false, and since then both sides have presented conflicting versions of the course of possible negotiations.
The United States this week, through Pakistan, submitted a 15-point peace plan proposal. Iranian media reported that Tehran responded with several conditions for an end to hostilities, including security guarantees and war reparations.
Earlier in the day, Trump said that Iran was “begging for a deal”, but he also threatened to strike even harder if it was not reached.
