Three people, including a four-year-old child, died in a serious traffic accident involving several vehicles in Central Franconia (Mittelfranken), the police announced in the evening. Several people were injured.
The accident happened on the B2 federal road near Pleinfeld, south of Nuremberg. According to initial police information, one vehicle swerved to avoid a tow truck that was on the stop lane. At the same time, another vehicle crossed into the opposite traffic lane during a lane change, where it collided with a vehicle coming from the opposite direction.
According to the police, there were five people in one of the vehicles. Three died at the scene of the accident – two women and one child. Another woman and a small child suffered serious injuries and were transported by helicopter to the hospital.
Not long after the collision, two more cars, according to the police, entered the accident zone. There were no additional serious injuries on that occasion.
For now, there is no official information about the exact cause of the accident. The road is completely closed to traffic. A large number of firefighters, ambulances and police were deployed on the ground. The accident happened around 4 p.m.
