The foreign ministers of these countries sent a joint letter to the EU’s high representative for foreign policy, Kaja Kallas, asking for an urgent review of the Union’s reaction and more decisive action due to the situation in the Middle East, especially in Lebanon, reports Index.
In the letter, they express concern over Israel’s moves, which they claim violate human rights and international law, and call on the EU to take moral and political responsibility and protect its fundamental values. They emphasize that the Union must not remain passive in order to preserve its own credibility.
They also warn that the proposed law on the death penalty for Palestinians constitutes a serious violation of human rights and further worsens the situation in the region. Although they welcome the ceasefire in Lebanon, they call on all parties to exercise restraint.
They remind that an earlier analysis has already established that Israel does not fulfill its obligations from the Agreement in the part related to human rights, and they request that the EU urgently consider its response, with the message that all options are open.
