Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen said on Sunday that enough is enough after US President Donald Trump’s repeated threats to annex the Danish autonomous territory. He added that Greenland is open to dialogue and discussion through appropriate channels, but that there is enough pressure and innuendo.
The European Union and several European countries have expressed their support for Greenland.
– That’s enough. No more pressure. No more innuendo. No more annexation fantasies. We are open to dialogue. We are open to discussion. But it must happen through the proper channels and with respect for international law – wrote Nielsen on Facebook on Sunday evening.
He added that the current and repeated rhetoric of the US is “completely unacceptable”, and the association with Venezuela and military intervention is not only wrong, but also “disrespectful”. Nielsen previously warned that Greenland is solely up to the people to decide.
The Prime Minister’s statements come after new pressure from the US and hints about the annexation of Greenland. Last weekend, Katie Miller, the wife of US presidential adviser Stephen Miller, posted a picture of Greenland in the colors of the US flag on the X network after Saturday’s US military operation against Venezuela, with the caption “Coming Soon”.
