The Palestinian Foreign Ministry called on Wednesday for a ceasefire that would cover the Palestinian territories by ending the war in the Gaza Strip and ending Israeli aggression and settler “terrorism” in the West Bank.
In a press release, the ministry emphasized the importance of intensifying efforts to end “the long-standing Israeli occupation, which is the fundamental cause of instability and lack of rights, security, peace and stability.”
The statement praised the initiatives led by various countries to achieve a ceasefire between the United States and Iran, emphasizing that diplomacy and dialogue must form the basis of the solution and pointing to the need to maintain security, sovereignty, resources, territorial integrity and stability of the countries of the region.
On Tuesday, the United States and Iran agreed to a two-week truce. The two sides are scheduled to begin talks in Islamabad, Pakistan’s capital, on Friday.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office has decided that Israel will abide by the ceasefire, but will continue military operations in Lebanon, reports Xinhua.
