According to CNN, Aoun conveyed that decision to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, saying that Lebanon is not currently ready for such a move.
Lebanese media report that Aoun maintains his position that he will not talk to Netanyahu, while at the same time the possibility of a joint phone conversation with the mediation of the US is being considered, with the aim of achieving a truce between Lebanon and Israel.
Lebanese officials stress that they will not enter into further negotiations until a cease-fire is established between Israel and Hezbollah. Aoun pointed out that the ceasefire should be the starting point of any dialogue.
Although Israel and Lebanon held the first direct talks in Washington this week after more than 40 years, the Israeli side has so far shown no willingness to end the conflict. So far, more than 2,000 people have died in the fighting, and over a million residents have been displaced.
