The decision stipulates that dog owners must have water bottles or sprinklers during the walk, without chemical additives, and to immediately wash the surfaces where the animals defecate, including sidewalks, streets, public areas and vehicles parked in public places, specified in the city announcement.
Failure to comply with this decision entails a fine in the amount of 25 to 500 euros, while the perpetrator is obliged to repair the damage, the decision states.
The decision of the mayor, which was made after numerous reports from citizens due to unpleasant odors and hygiene problems in urban areas, introduced new obligations for dog owners.
As stated in the city announcement, the local authorities pointed to the growing number of pets, especially dogs, as well as the problems that arise due to the presence of animal excrement in public spaces intended for citizens.
The city authorities point out that the measure was introduced as a temporary measure, during the period of elevated temperatures, in order to preserve hygiene, orderliness and quality of life in urban areas.
