An initiative for the abolition of the rights of Hungary in the European Union is launched due to its frequent blocking of joint decisions.

MPs of the Pan-European Party Volt prepared a nine-point action plan, which will send the EU leaders on the eve of an emergency summit for tomorrow.

This is their plan composed through nine points:

1. United Decisions: Activate Article 7 In order to stop the Victor Orban veto, the Hungarian opposition has stopped. If it is blocked, establish the European Union 2.0.
2. EU Foreign Minister: Give Powers Kaji Kallas to keep foreign policy and introducing the EU’s performance sanctions through an intergovernmental agreement.
3. Contract change Immediately: Implement targeted amendments to the contract to add the defense. Initiate a comprehensive Convention on Contracts as Preparation for Enlargement.
4. Defense debt: issued a common EU debt for multi-year joint procurement, establish the European version of DARPA and a specialized regional industrial cluster.
5. Victory for Ukraine: Use more than 200 billion euros Frozen Russian property for the defense of Ukraine and the preparation of European security guarantees, such as the protection of the European sky and sending soldiers to the field.
6. European Army: Develop an independent European commanding and control center, create European strategic capacities and place a legal basis for European armed forces.
7. Radical harmonization: Remove obstacles to make companies easier to grow within the EU through an accelerated review of the law and wide application 28. regime.
8. Wardrobe coalition: strengthen trade, technology and defense cooperation through the formal coalition of like-minded people like the United Kingdom, Norway, Canada and Japan.
9. European Technological Infrastructure: Invest in EU infrastructure for artificial intelligence, data and storage in the cloud. Protect public hearings and elections through a stronger regulation of social networks.

Pan-European Party Volt state several reasons why they initiated this initiative:

  • Hungary has frequently blocked joint EU decisions, especially related to Ukraine and sanctions by Russia
  • criticisms for violating the rule of law and democratic standards in Hungary
  • Controversial role of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on the December Summit of the EU 2023. years

Article 7

The proposal is based on the activation of Article 7 of the Treaty on the European Union, which enables the sanction of Member States that violate the basic values of the European Union. Hungary is already under the first chapter of Article 7 of 2018. year, and this proposal could lead to the second and third phase, which would potentially result in the suspension of the voting rights.

Although this initiative is significant, it is important to note that the European Parliament alone cannot initiate the second phase of Article 7. Only one third of the Member State or the European Commission can do. Therefore, this move is primarily used to perform political pressure on the Commission and Member States to take concrete steps against Hungary.

Hungary was repeatedly on the target of criticism in the European Parliament for violating the rule of law and democratic standards. The European Union accuses the Victor Orban Government to restrict the independence of the judiciary, the freedom of the media and civil society rights. Therefore, Brussels froze billions of euros intended for Budapest, seeking the conditions for strengthening democratic institutions.

At the same time, Hungary uses its right veto to block the key decisions of the EU, including those of the help of Ukraine and sanctions against Russia, writes index.hr.
