On Monday, Iran fired the first volleys of missiles and drones at Israel, but also at the states in the Persian Gulf, just a day after Mojtaba Khamenei succeeded his father, the slain Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as supreme leader.
On the same day, Israel announced that it was carrying out attacks on what it said were regime infrastructure in Iran.
The conflict between the two countries has been going on for ten days and is increasingly affecting the entire Middle East, while the consequences are also being felt on the global economy.
Hours after the announcement that Iran had a new supreme leader, Iranian state television reported that missiles had been fired at Israel.
The footage shows the fuselage of one missile bearing the message: “Under your command, Sajid Mojtaba,” a Shiite religious reference and a symbol of Iranian forces’ loyalty to the new leader.
As a reminder, the Israeli army announced on Monday that it had launched a new wave of attacks on Iran, targeting missile launch sites, Revolutionary Guards and police command centers, as well as a rocket engine company.
Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain also reported waves of Iranian missiles and drones launched in their direction on Monday.
An Iranian drone injured 32 civilians, four of them seriously, in Sitra, Bahrain, according to the Ministry of Health.
