The export of chicken meat from Bosnia and Herzegovina to the EU was temporarily suspended a few days ago due to the outbreak of bird flu at a farm in Petrovo.
Velibor Popović, chairman of the Poultry Coordinating Committee of BiH, stated that on February 26, the export of chicken to the countries of the European Union was prohibited.
– Chicken producers will have a large amount of meat left in Bosnia and Herzegovina. So far, one and a half tons have already remained, so the producers are very affected by this decision – said Popović, guest in the morning program of RTRS.
Millions of damage in poultry farming
He added that in general most meat is exported to Croatia.
– At the moment, we are all managing in our own way, the border with Serbia is not closed, and that means a lot to us. The fresh meat remains at our grill, and we freeze some of it, which we will then export – said Popović.
He noted that due to these measures, multimillion-dollar damage was caused in the poultry industry.
– The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republika Srpska promised us help, we are grateful for their support – said Popović.
Ban for at least 30 days
Currently, there is also a ban on the export of fresh chicken meat to EU countries, which could last 30 days at best.
– In the first half of April, I hope that we will solve this problem with the EU – said Popović.
We would like to remind you that the poultry farm in Karanovac settlement, Petrovo municipality, became the focus of bird flu, it was confirmed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Srpska.
Immediately, in cooperation with the local crisis center, the Republic Administration for Inspection Affairs and veterinary organizations, all prescribed measures for the suppression and control of the disease were carried out, reports Zenica blog.
