Today, the European Commission is investing more than 103 million euros in seven strategic projects across Europe with funding under the LIFE program.
It will contribute to strengthening the well-being of the EU, strengthening economic stability, food systems and ecological ecosystems while simultaneously improving public health and quality of life across the continent, the Commission announced.
The selected projects are located in Finland, France, Greece, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia and Spain.
In order to support and accelerate the implementation of EU policies in the field of environment and climate, projects are particularly focused on resilience to climate change and water, nature restoration, circular economy and sustainable land use.
They are expected to mobilize additional national public and private investment.
Climate Policy Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra said: “The cost of inaction continues to rise. Investing in climate is not optional – it is key to our economy, security and independence. The business case for accelerating the clean transition is clear, and these strategic LIFE projects are investments that contribute to our climate goals.”
Commissioner for the Environment, Water Supply Resilience and Competitive Circular Economy Jessika Roswall said: Long-term strategic projects under the LIFE program are key to ensuring a safe and sustainable Europe. Today’s investment strengthens Europe’s natural infrastructure, the foundation of our economic security, competitiveness and resilience.”
