The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina this morning gave its consent to the proposal of the Agreement between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia on the construction of the Southern Interconnection.
After this agreement, we are waiting for the extraordinary session of the BiH Presidency at 11:00 a.m., where the members should also give their opinion.
With this, everything is ready for the signing of the agreement on the construction of the South Interconnection (JIK) gas pipeline, which should happen today in Dubrovnik within the framework of the Three Seas Initiative summit.
The agreement will be signed by the Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Borjana Krišto, and the Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrej Plenković.
As part of the summit, 10 important agreements backed by the USA will be signed. They refer, among other things, to cooperation related to the use of nuclear energy for civil purposes and the southern gas interconnection – by connecting Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Croatian gas pipeline and supplying gas via the LNG terminal on Krk instead of depending on supply routes from Russia.
The large American delegation is led by US Energy Minister Chris Wright.
The agreement regulates the basics of cooperation and joint construction of interconnection (each on its own) on the direction Zagvozd (Republic of Croatia) – Posušje (Bosnia and Herzegovina) – Tomislavgrad – Šuica – Kupres – Bugojno – Novi Travnik/Travnik and on the direction Posušje – Grude – Široki Brijeg – Mostar, with branches to Livno, Gornji Vakuf-Uskoplje, Donji Vakuf and Jajce, and a branch to Čapljina and additional in the direction of Kladanj – Tuzla in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the gas pipeline Split – Zagvozd in the Republic of Croatia.
The agreement will be signed by the Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Borjana Krišto, and the Croatian Prime Minister, Andrej Plenković. The signing of the agreement was scheduled at 12 noon.
It is one of the largest infrastructural projects in BiH, estimated at several billion marks.
The Southern Gas Interconnection project represents a key strategic step forward that brings Bosnia and Herzegovina energy sovereignty, diversification of supply sources and direct connection to the global energy market via the LNG terminal on Krk, writes Avaz.
