The Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina will announce the General Election on Thursday, May 7, said the member of that Commission, Suad Arnautović.
He emphasized that in the next three days, the CEC has a job to adapt the rules to the new way of conducting elections.
“This is a millennial generational project,” Arnautovic told Investigative of the Week, talking about the introduction of new technologies.
He confirmed that Smartmatic did not have the most favorable offer, but that according to him, that is not decisive.
He also explained what the ballot paper will look like, and how a large paper, for example in the FBIH, where there are several levels of voting, can pass through the scanner.
The ticket will be such that the scanner can receive it, but also so that it is clear and visible to the citizens.
“We have solved that issue, we are moving in the right direction. Ballots will be able to be scanned, all preferences up to 3 remain, the names of the candidates will be structured a little differently, not like before… The idea is to have the party numbers, name, serial number and at the same time on the side a sheet with all the candidates, three preferences, dice where you will enter them on the ballot itself… You will write, that sheet will be composed of three parts, a complete book of all parties. One paper, numbers, instructions, preferences, you write either a number or an X next to the numbers, without names (leaving space for the CEC to define it).
Everything will be the same as before except for the name, he emphasized in the aforementioned show.
Arnautović also explained what biometrics and scanners mean, and said that the preliminary results should be available by 10 p.m. or earlier. An additional control will be manual counting and addition through records.
General elections in BiH should be held in October.
More than 518 members of the following authorities will be elected:
- BiH Presidency: 3
- Parliament of BiH: Total 42 – from FBiH 28 (21 direct and 7 compensatory mandates), from RS 14 (9 direct and 5 compensatory mandates)
- Parliament of FBiH: 98 (73 direct and 25 compensatory mandates)
- President and Vice-Presidents of the RS: 3
- National Assembly of the RS: 83 representatives (63 direct and 20 compensatory mandates)

- Canton 2 (Canton of Posavina): 21
- Canton 3 (Tuzlan Canton): 35
- Canton 4 (Zeničko-Doboj Canton): 35
