Bosnia and Herzegovina fan Sanel Babić received the green light from FIFA to bring a large flag with lilies to the matches of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team during the upcoming World Cup.
Babić shared the news on social networks that made him particularly happy, pointing out that it was a flag that he made with his own hands, while his aunt also took part in sewing it.
The flag was already present at the matches of Bosnia and Herzegovina against Mexico and the United States of America, and now it will also be found in the stands of the stadiums in Los Angeles and Seattle.
According to him, he sent the request for approval to FIFA, and the answer came very quickly and was positive.
The approval from soccer’s governing body comes after public calls to ban lily flags from stadiums during the World Cup.
Such a request was previously sent to FIFA by HSS president Željko Karamatić, considering that this symbol should not be present at matches.
However, FIFA did not accept such proposals. On the contrary, the approval received by Babić shows that the world football federation does not consider the use of the historical flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina at sporting events controversial.
This means that fans of the BiH national team will also be able to display flags with lilies in the stadiums during the World Cup while supporting the Dragons in their performances at the world’s biggest football show.
