According to the Iranian version of events, a warning was sent through an intermediary from Pakistan that the ship would be targeted within 30 minutes if it continued to move towards the strait. After that message, the American ship, they say, stopped moving and changed course, which Tehran interprets as a result of their reaction.
The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is one of the key points of the cease-fire agreement between the United States and Iran. This narrow sea passage is considered one of the most important routes for global trade and energy supply.
However, in the days following the declaration of the armistice, very few ships passed through the strait. A US official previously acknowledged that traffic was down because of what he said was Iranian intimidation.
The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, announced on the social network Truth Social that the threat of mines was the main reason why ships avoided passing through the strait.
He added: “We are now starting the process of cleaning up the Strait of Hormuz as a service to countries around the world, including China, Japan, South Korea, France, Germany and many others.”
