“FIFA continues to work with all three governments of the 2026 FIFA World Cup hosts, including the US Department of State, the CDC and Department of Homeland Security, the Mexican Secretariat of Health and the Canadian Public Health Agency, as well as the World Health Organization, to ensure the safe and secure conduct of the tournament, as the health of all individuals involved remains FIFA’s priority.”
Congo’s national team has canceled a planned training camp that was supposed to take place in the capital Kinshasa this Sunday.
“Our team’s training program is proceeding as planned in Europe and Houston,” a DR Congo spokesman told Politico.com. “Kinshasa match canceled due to health restrictions.”
The DR Congo national team should be in Houston in June, and the first match in group K will be played in that city on June 17 against Portugal. DR Congo’s other group games will be on June 23 against Colombia in Zapopan, Mexico, and on June 27 against Uzbekistan in Atlanta, reports Hina.
The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Monday suspended entry into the country for 30 days for people who have recently visited the places of Ebola outbreaks: DR Congo, Uganda and South Sudan.
Satish Pillai, incident manager for the CDC’s Ebola response, said Tuesday, according to Politico.com, “We are actively working with FIFA to ensure safe travel, safe passage and the safety of travelers and the American public throughout.”
