Hungary has called on the EU to follow the example of the US and temporarily ease sanctions related to Russian oil, instead of complying with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, Hungarian Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Peter Szijjarto said.
“The solution lies in what the Americans are doing. Sanctions aimed at Russian oil should be lifted, and Russian energy resources should be allowed to return to the European market,” said Szijjarto in a message on social networks.
He assessed that, unfortunately, Brussels has not yet taken that step.
“Hungary demands that Brussels, like the Americans, lift sanctions against Russia,” Szijjarto pointed out.
The US has temporarily approved the sale of Russian crude oil and petroleum products loaded on ships before March 12, under a general permit from the US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
