An Iranian military spokesman said on Sunday that countries implementing US sanctions against Tehran “will certainly face difficulties in passing through the Strait of Hormuz,” according to local media, Anadolia reports.
– None of the enemy’s objectives have been achieved, and the political balance of the Iranian system “has not been disturbed”, Brigadier General Akrami Nia said in a statement carried by the semi-official Tasnim news agency.
Regional tensions have escalated since the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran on February 28, prompting Tehran to retaliate against Israel as well as US allies in the Gulf, closing the Strait of Hormuz.
A Pakistani-brokered ceasefire came into effect on April 8, but talks in Islamabad have failed to produce a lasting agreement. The truce was later extended indefinitely by US President Donald Trump, giving way to diplomacy for a permanent solution to the war.
Since April 13, the US has implemented a naval blockade targeting Iranian shipping in that waterway. Trump announced Tuesday that the U.S. military would temporarily pause “Project Freedom” to restore freedom of navigation for commercial shipping through the ship channel, and said the U.S. blockade would remain “in effect.”
