“We have nothing to calculate, no alibi, let’s go for the first trophy,” he said.
It will be the second edition of the Super Cup after the reactivation of this competition last season, when Zrinjski won the trophy against Borac, and coach Štimac believes that his players managed to overcome the disappointment after the championship defeat last Sunday in Posušje.
“The big derby is waiting for us. We wanted to meet it with a victory in Posušje, but it was not possible. We were not good. We have to change that tomorrow in order to win the first trophy”, he emphasized.
He added that the problems in the game are obvious, but that what happened cannot be changed. According to Štimac, the focus should be on what comes next.
“It was one of those games when nothing goes your way. But there’s no anger, you only have to look at yourself and your mistakes. When I look at everything, especially the number of games, I can’t blame the players for anything. The fall was inevitable, you just hope it won’t happen,” emphasized the Mostar strategist, adding that the form was most affected by the “big emptying” in Europe.
He does not perceive fatigue before the Super Cup as a detail that will be decisive, so he says that Zrinjski has nothing to calculate, that he has no alibi.
He is also motivated from a personal point of view, because it would be his first trophy on European soil after the championship title with Hajduk in 2005.
“Every trophy is valuable, it remains written down, but what makes me very happy is what Zrinjski presented in Europe. Because I always said that I don’t want to bother with local derbies, even though we want to beat everyone. Zrinjski has reached a level in Europe where you have to constantly look at yourself,” Štimac explained.
He also referred to the state of the WWin League of BiH table, where Borac now has a nine-point lead.
“Nine points are nine points, we have to look at ourselves and hope that the opponent will ‘flip’. Now it’s more difficult than before, but we have to fight to the end. We gave away a goal to Posušje, Širok, individual mistakes happen… We are not Manchester City or Arsenal to expect our players not to make mistakes. They are my players, I don’t rely on them”, he concluded.
