HŠK Zrinjski Mostar was defeated 1:0 by Mainz on Thursday in the second round of the Conference League, but despite the defeat, head coach Igor Štimac believes that his players played a good game in which they showed strength and character.
It was a good game. We were good and parried welleven better with one less player than in the first half, where they outplayed us several times on the left side and created a couple of situations. All in all, I’m proud of my team. It is not easy to play bravely and selflessly with a lesser player against the Bundesliga. Although the defeat is there, the home team’s victory is deserved.
Štmac added how it is the red card was justifiedand that Igor Savić was deservedly excluded.
Mainz celebrated minimally, Zrinjski played 60 minutes with one less player
That put us in very uncomfortable position because it disrupted the plans we had for this game, but we managed well. We are in the second half stood firmly in two blocks. Many teams would fall apart in this kind of intensity, but this is precisely the quality of Zrinjski – constancy, firmness and resilience in difficult situations.
