Zenica (INZ) Institute for Health and Food (INZ) said that the new season of supervision over respiratory viruses for the period 2025/2026 was officially begun in Zenica-Doboj Canton. .
Supervision is carried out by 40. weeks running until 20. weeks next year, and includes flu viruses, SARS-COV-2 and respiratory syncic virus (RSV).
Within the comprehensive surveillance system, the occurrence of acute respiratory infections (Ari), diseases similar to influenza (I) and severe acute respiratory infections (SARI), with the aim of early detection of virus circulation and fluid activity.
According to data from the previous season, the Gripe 2024/2025, 27,496 people with symptoms of similar flu were recorded in the Federation of BiH, while 1,803 samples were tested. The largest number of positive findings was on the flu virus type A (37.7%). In 2024. Three deaths were registered, while in the first half of 2025. 13 deaths from the flu were recorded.
From the beginning of September 2025. The number of cases of Covid-19 through routine surveillance was recorded, which further emphasizes the importance of monitoring respiratory infections.
Given the expected greater activity of respiratory viruses in the coming period, the competent compliance is recommended by the general hygienic-epidemiological measures: regular hand washing, ventilation of larger gatherings and remain at home in case of similar flu symptoms. The flu vaccination is also recommended as the most effective measure of protecting the severe forms of disease and complications.
For the season 2025/2026. A total of 5,200 dose of the flu vaccine – 4,000 dose is intended for chronic patients, older people and children, while 1,200 dose is provided for health professionals. About the availability of the public will be informed in a timely manner.
