Since the launch of the investigation in 2018, the number of documented cases of sexual abuse of children within the Catholic Church in Spain has increased from 34 to 3,081, the newspaper reports.
The latest files collected by the paper include information on crimes in Spain and 21 testimonies of victims from eight South American countries, with accusations against 24 living and active members of the Catholic clergy.
This is the sixth file that “Pais” has compiled in the past five years, which contains the testimonies of victims, reports Srna.
The paper announced that it had forwarded the materials to the Vatican, the Spanish Bishops’ Conference and the Ombudsman for Children’s Rights, while the Catholic Church has not commented on the allegations.
