Spain has invited to the International Embargo on Weapons against the Israeli Government, in order to end war and humanitarian disaster in the Gaza belt.
“We all need to arrange around the common embargo on weapons,” said the head of Spanish diplomacy José Manuel Albares, by journalists at the beginning of the meeting of the Ministers of the so-called Madrid groups in the capital of Spain.
“The last thing to the Middle East needs more weapons now,” he stressed.
Albares also requested an urgent suspension of the Association Agreement between the European Union and Israel – which is a move that Brussels is currently considering – and the introduction of targeted sanctions against individuals who obstruct the decision on two countries.
If necessary, sanctions should also include Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Albares added.
“None of this focused against the state of Israel,” the head of Spanish diplomacy emphasized. “But Palestinians have equal rights to peace and security as well as Israelis.”
In the Interview for France France Info, Albares stated: “What is the alternative? Push all the Palestinians? Export them, I don’t know where, to the moon? Or give them Israeli citizenship?”
Albares pointed out that there is no alternative to the solution on two countries, which can only lead to lasting and just peace.
Spain is one of the most critical European countries when it comes to Israeli military operation in Gaza. Last year, in September, the first meeting of the Madrid Group was organized, which consists of representatives of about 20 countries in Europe, the Arab world and Brazil. This is their second gathering.
Since the beginning of the war, Israeli forces killed more than 53,900 Palestinians, and wounded more than 122,700, they state sources.
