Simon Mignolet has announced that he will retire from professional football at the end of this season, ending almost 20 years at the highest level, Belga reported.
The 38-year-old, who currently plays for Club Brugge, will complete the ongoing play-offs before retiring from the game.
After that, he will start a new management role at the Royal Belgian Football Association on September 1st.
Mignolet has a very successful career in Belgium and England. He previously played for Sint-Truiden, Sunderland and Liverpool, winning the UEFA Champions League with Liverpool in 2019.
He later returned to Belgium, where he helped Club Brugge win four league titles.
At the international level, Mignolet played 35 games for the Belgian national football team and was part of the squad at several world and European championships. Despite injuries and competition for his spot this season, he remains focused on finishing his career strong. Club Brugge are aiming for another league title, which would be a worthy final achievement for the experienced goalkeeper.
