Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on the X platform that the attacker who shot at civilians had been killed.
“The Ukrainian Minister of the Interior, Ihor Klimenko, has just informed that the attacker in Kiev who opened fire on civilians has been eliminated. All the circumstances are being determined. Five dead have been confirmed at the moment. My condolences to the families and relatives. Ten people have been hospitalized with injuries and traumas. All of them are receiving the necessary help. Four hostages have been rescued,” Zelensky said.

He added that he expected a quick investigation.
“Investigators of the National Police and the Security Service of Ukraine are working on the case. I have ordered the Minister of Internal Affairs and the head of the National Police to make all verified information about this case available to the public,” he said.
Klimenko said that the suspect was killed when the special forces started to arrest him. Members of the KORD special unit broke into the shop where the attacker was.
According to Klimenko, the attacker took hostages and during the operation shot at the policeman. Before the invasion, negotiators tried to reach a peaceful solution. The mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klitschko said earlier that among the injured was a child who was taken to the hospital.
According to Ukrainska Pravda sources, the attacker is Dmytro Vasilchenkov, born on April 21, 1968 in Moscow. He had Ukrainian citizenship, previously lived in Bakhmut in the Donetsk region, and then moved to Kyiv.
