A court in Bangladesh on Monday found ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina guilty of crimes against humanity, for which she could face the death penalty.
Sheikh Hasina, 78, has failed to comply with court orders to return from India to attend a trial examining whether she ordered a deadly crackdown on the student uprising that ousted her in August 2024.
– All the elements that constitute crimes against humanity have been met – Judge Golam Mortuza Mozumder read in front of a full courtroom in Dhaka, and the trial was broadcast live on national television.
