Organizers of the WTA tournament in Berlin have announced that Serena Williams will compete in women’s doubles at the tournament starting on June 15, marking a new stop in her return to the court after a nearly four-year hiatus.
– Every tournament I add to the schedule is now special, and Berlin is no exception – the 44-year-old American said in a statement.
Her doubles partner will be announced later.
Williams confirmed on Monday that she will also play in the tournament at London’s Queen’s Club from June 8, while Berlin will serve as preparation for Wimbledon, which starts on June 29.
Nine of the ten best players in the world will take part in the tournament in the German capital, writes AFP.
Williams played her last match on the WTA Tour in the third round of the US Open in 2022. Until Wimbledon, he plans to perform in Bad Homburg and Eastbourne.
During her career, she won seven singles titles and six doubles titles on London grass.
