The company Highways of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (AC FBiH) published a video presentation of the section of Corridor 5C from Ovčar near Konjic to the entrance to the future Prenj tunnel, as well as the southern bypass to Konjic.
This section of the highway will be 10.3 kilometers long, and will consist of:
- Viaduct 463.50 meters long;
- 60 meter long bridge;
- Viaduct 480 meters long;
- The tunnel, whose left pipe will be 682 meters long, while the right pipe will be 580 meters long,
- A tunnel whose left pipe will be 1.3 kilometers long, while the right pipe will be slightly more than one kilometer long;
- Viaduct 540 meters long on the left side and 605 meters on the right side;
- Loop with a viaduct 590 meters long on the left and 610 meters on the right. There will be a gas station with a rest area near this interchange;
- Entrance to the Prenj tunnel.
The construction of a 3.5-kilometer-long southern bypass for Konjic on the M17 highway is also planned. This bypass will consist of an 825-meter-long tunnel, an 82-meter-long viaduct and a 387-meter-long bridge.
For the section of Corridor 5C Ovčari – Prenj tunnel, a conceptual project has been created, and the main project is being developed. When it comes to the Prenj tunnel itself, it will be 10.9 kilometers long and as such will be the longest tunnel on Corridor 5C, the ninth longest tunnel in Europe and the 30th longest tunnel in the world. It is estimated that its construction will cost as much as 600 million euros.
AC FBiH has repeatedly pointed out that the construction of the Prenj tunnel will be their biggest challenge in the construction of Corridor 5C. The director of AC FBiH Denis Lasić announced that the construction of this tunnel will be contracted in the spring of 2025, and he expects that the construction of the complete highway will be completed in 2030. With the construction of the Prenj tunnel, the travel time from Sarajevo to Mostar will be shortened by an hour.
