More than ten years ago, the Sarajevo – Belgrade highway was pompously announced as a strategic interest for our country and Serbia. That, indeed, it is, is confirmed by the profession.
However, unlike Serbia, which carries out its activities on the ground, Bosnia and Herzegovina. side, as usual, divided in terms of route, and instead of profession, politics has the main say.
With speeches and promises, and recorded by cameras, seven years ago the foundation stone of the Sarajevo-Belgrade highway, symbolically called the “road of peace and friendship”, was laid.
The construction of the Kuzmin-Sremska Rača highway section in Serbia, with a new bridge over the Sava River, is in its final phase.
With a total length of about 18 kilometers, with a bridge over the Sava River, it is part of the E-761 highway construction project, Belgrade – Sarajevo.
The route is designed as a classic highway profile, with two carriageways, each with two lanes and one stop lane, separated by a central strip. The projected speed is up to 130 km/h.
The beginning of the road is planned near the existing Kuzmin intersection on the Belgrade-Zagreb highway and leads all the way to the existing border crossing near Sremska Rača.
The construction of the highway section is of exceptional geostrategic importance, as it will connect Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina and enable a connection with the Pan-European corridors.
As many as 133 bridges and 53 tunnels need to be built on the Bosnian side, but for years the debate was the most important. Only in 2022, two routes were agreed upon: one via Tuzla and Bijeljina from Belgrade and the other via Pale, Rogatica and Višegrad.
