Hundreds of thousands of San Francisco residents were without power on Saturday, leading to the cancellation of the “Nutcracker” ballet performance and the temporary suspension of the city’s robot taxi service.
According to Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E), about 130,000 electricity customers were affected by the power outage.
On Sunday morning, 16 hours after the problem started, about 25,000 households were still without electricity. The cause of the major power outage is still unknown.
The city’s emergency services reported that public transport was significantly disrupted. Several train lines were down, and Waymo temporarily suspended its robot taxi service, Mayor Daniel Lurie announced on the X social network.
The mayor urged residents to stay home and use flashlights instead of candles for safety.
