Russia, China and Iran are the biggest threats to Sweden, the Swedish Security Service (SAPO) said on Wednesday in its annual report on the threats facing the country.
In recent years, security police have warned of growing threats, primarily from the Russian state, which is increasingly prone to risky ventures in support of its war in Ukraine, including destabilizing hybrid attacks across Europe.
Iran has also long been flagged as a serious threat, and authorities have noted how state actors are using criminal networks in Sweden, which has faced a wave of gang-related crime for the past decade, to carry out violent acts.
The US-Israeli military operation against Iran and Iran’s countermeasures have increased the threat to US, Israeli and Jewish targets in Sweden, security chief Charlotte von Essen said in the report.
