Roger Federer will return to the US Open this year, seven years after his last appearance in New York, to take part in a special exhibition night.
One of the greatest tennis players of all time, Roger Federerwill reappear at US Openthe tournament organizers announced.
The Swiss will be the main star of the event called Roger Federer: The icon returns to New Yorkwhich will take place August 25.
Return to the place of great memories
Federer last competed at the US Open in 2019, and he returns to New York seven years after that appearance.
We are talking about a tennis player who marked the history of the tournament as the only player who won it five consecutive US Open titles.
During his career he won 20 Grand Slam titles and in total 103 tournament titlesbefore ending his professional career in 2022.
After 24 years of professional tennis, Federer concluded his career by performing at Laver Cup in London.
Along with Federer, other big names are coming
Federer will be joined by the 2003 US Open winner at the special exhibition dinner Andy Roddickas well as tennis legends Andre Agassi and John McEnroe.
In the press release, Federer emphasized how much it means to him to return to New York and to the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The US Open has always been one of the most special tournaments for me. Many unforgettable moments of my career happened in New York, and Arthur Ashe Stadium is a place that means a lot to me. I missed being part of that atmosphere and feeling the incredible energy that the fans bring every year.
In August and entering the Hall of Fame
This year, Federer should be admitted to the International Tennis Hall of Fameand the ceremony is scheduled for August in Newport, USA, he writes HRT.
