Within 90 days, the Council of Ministers shall establish special counters for citizens of BiH at passport control at airports in BiH.
At the last session, the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted the parliamentary initiative of Nihad Omerović (NiP), which mandates the Council of Ministers of BiH to establish special counters for citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina at passport control at airports in BiH within 90 days of the adoption of this initiative.
Omerović stated that, taking into account the fact that Bosnia and Herzegovina records an increase in the number of passengers at Sarajevo International Airport and other airports in BiH, and at the same time witnessing the daily crowds and long waits at passport control, he proposes the introduction of special counters exclusively for citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina at all airports in our country.
He believes that such a move would have multiple benefits.
“It would clearly show that the state takes care of its people and gives them priority in its own territory, which strengthens the feeling of trust in the institutions. It would relieve the existing capacities of the border police and reduce crowds, which would also benefit foreign citizens, and thus the tourism sector of our country,” says Omerović.
He adds that such a practice, which exists in many European countries, would contribute to a better image of BiH and its perception as a modern and organized state that takes care of its citizens.
Omerović believes that it would facilitate and speed up the movement of our citizens, “providing them with a dignified and efficient passage through border procedures.”
Explaining his initiative at the session of the House of Representatives, he said that its implementation would not require additional financial resources, only a more efficient personnel and organizational reorganization of the existing system within our three international airports would be needed.
He expects the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the airport administration to implement this initiative as soon as possible.
“The state shows itself not only through large projects and reforms, but also through small, concrete measures that directly make life easier for its citizens. A special counter for BiH citizens at passport control is not a privilege, but a minimum of respect that this state owes its people,” Omerović pointed out.
In the end, he concluded that this is completely the standard, not the exception, not only in the countries of the Euro, but also in many countries of the world.
